Hi, I’m Rosso — painter, educator, and founder of this school.
Years ago, while training at a classical atelier, my mentor said something that changed everything: “Stop copying. Start seeing.”
Not the object or the photo — but the shapes, the color, the relationships between things.
When I stopped replicating what I thought I saw and began to understand and paint through the lens of a painter, my entire style shifted — and so did my path.
Figurative painting isn’t about matching reality. It’s about observing, interpreting, and expressing how you feel the world.
Practicing classical principles makes us more aware, more intentional, and, ultimately, confident in finding freedom in expression.
That’s why, at the core of this school, you’ll find structure and a methodical approach to painting — one that equips you with the tools to set your voice free.

My story, briefly...
When I turned 30 I decided to leave my career in advertising and pursue my passion for portraiture.
I trained briefly at the London Atelier of Representational Art, where I was introduced to the classical foundations of drawing and painting. That experience gave me a deep appreciation for structure — something that continues to shape my method and teaching to this day.
My own work blends classical techniques with bold colour, abstraction, and emotional depth — a style I call abstract-figurative.
I have exhibited internationally, including at the MEAM Museum and Mall Galleries, and featured in several publications including Colossal, E-Volved Magazine , My Modern Met, Magzoid, on the cover of The Artist Mag (UK), and International Artist Magazine. I’ve also participated twice in Sky Portrait Artist of the Year (2019 & 2020) (you can see me right at the heat and here with my winning self-portrait) and a finalist in the Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize, ModPortrait, and won several prizes, including Jackson’s Painting Prize and the the Women in Art Prize 2016. In 2024, I began running events in collaboration with Soho House, and my work is now part of their permanent art collection.
This school brings together everything I’ve learned along the way — the techniques, mindset, and creative process that helped me grow as an artist. In my lessons, I combine structure with spontaneity — helping you build solid technique while nurturing your personal style.

About the School
I began teaching both online and in person around seven years ago, and since then, I’ve been invited to lead workshops internationally — in the US, UK, France, Spain, and Italy — while also creating and hosting my own immersive art retreats.
In 2023, I launched a prototype for an online recurring course — a 4-week live Zoom workshop focused on portraiture — which attracted over 160 students from around the world. The feedback was clear: artists wanted more — more content, more access to my process, and more opportunities to grow.
That demand sparked the idea for Rosso Art School — a comprehensive online platform where I could distill over 15 years of painting and teaching experience into a growing library of accessible, high-quality content. It’s designed as a living resource: something my students — including those attending in-person workshops — can return to again and again, at their own pace.
The school officially launched in November 2024, and has already welcomed over 200 students globally.
In the past year, I’ve partnered with leading art brands like Michael Harding, CASS Art, Pro Arte, and Meeden, who have supported the school through collaborations and sponsorships.
As the school grows, so do the opportunities — with upcoming exhibitions, events, artist trips, and more ways for students to engage with the art world both online and in person.
